Delta Launches Biometric Boarding at Detroit

Delta Air Lines is starting to board passengers using biometric technology on flights from Detroit Metropolitan Airport to Tokyo.

Instead of showing a boarding pass, passengers step up to a camera which scans their face to verify identity. Delta has also begun using biometric technology for baggage drops and airport lounge entry.

Detroit is the third airport where the technology is being used for boarding Delta flights, following New York/JFK and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Beijing, Seoul, and Shanghai are among other international cities with nonstop Delta flights to Detroit which could see biometric screening added to more flights and destinations.

Boarding via biometric identification is optional, passengers may still present a boarding pass at the gate if they prefer.
